Antiquity Lamp

Antiquity Lamp
SKU: SC047

For thousands of years small oil lamps were used for light in homes, temples, taverns, and tombs. Recall the Gospel story of the foolish bridesmaids and their short supply of oil. We commissioned our own Chris March, CSJ, to replicate a version of an ancient clay oil lamp, this one is Circa 300 BC .

Ancient clay lamps came in many sizes and most are very small. The earliest Greek lamps were wheel-made, but molded oil lamps as this one, came into use about 300 BC. The rounded body of this design has an elongated spout. These lamps were common in the Greek colonies of Italy as well as the rest of the Greek world.

Ours is cast in Durastone with a sand-textured natural finish. (Clean w/ soft cloth, no water.) 3.5” x 5’ Includes tealight candle. SC047 $ 15.95 (Exclusive to MOTA)
