Many traditions and cultures tell of the presence of a Dark Mother, a Black Madonna, Holy Wisdom. Artist, Mary Southard has modeled her Black Madonna on the Black Virgin of Le Puy, the city in France where the Sisters of St. Joseph originated in 1650.

Her richly hand-painted garments protect the Child being presented to the world. The Cosmos ---- sun, moon and stars ---- radiate on the back.
